The Fresh Love: 5 Ways to Love On People For National Love People Day

National Love People Day on the 30th of September is one of our favorite holidays at Fresh Prep! Like most people, the teachers and parents at Fresh Prep believe in the importance of education. Within that education, we make an effort to teach our children to give love and not expect anything in return. Love is one of the most selfless and wonderful feelings there is. Why not embrace it?

If you’re struggling to find ways to express your love for people that are close to you, we’ve got you covered! Check out our 5 ways to love on your favorite people on our favorite day of the year.

  • Be a good listener

  • Being a good listener is one of the skills that most loving people possess. Sometimes your loved one doesn’t need advice, words of encouragement, or your opinion; they just need you to listen to them. Through active listening, you show your loved ones that they are not alone and you are there to support them no matter what they’re going through. Very few people know how to be good listeners, even though it’s very easy. All you have to do is, well, listen. Don’t let your own experiences and judgments cloud your mind. Be receptive to what your friend is trying to say. Sometimes, all you need is someone who will listen.

  • Don’t give advice

  • Oftentimes, your advice is very helpful and appreciated. When your loved one asks for your advice, there is no reason why you shouldn’t share it and help them out. However, you shouldn’t think that you know what’s best for them better than they do. Love is letting people make their own decisions and not meddling in their affairs. Learn to recognize when your advice is not wanted and adjust accordingly. Even if you’re absolutely sure your friend is making a mistake, you have to let them make that mistake if that’s what they want to do. Your advice will not change their mind. Instead, be supportive.

  • Help out in small ways

  • You don’t always need grand romantic gestures to let someone know you love them. On the contrary, you can show your love with small acts of kindness. It can be as small as giving your loved ones a hug or making them a cup of hot tea. If you want to do more than that, help out with chores! Take the trash out at home, cook dinner for the whole family, or babysit your younger siblings. All of these are sure ways to show your family how much you value them.

  • Try to understand

  • You won’t always agree with your friends and family on everything. There will be times when you will want to stand up for what you believe and challenge the beliefs of your friends. When you do that, remember to be open-minded. The biggest mistake people make in situations like these is judging something just because they don’t understand it. At the same time, we all live our lives in the hope of being accepted and loved. If you want to spread love and positivity, you should focus on listening to other people and really hearing them.

  • Be open

  • As smartphones are becoming more common, you can find an increasing number of people not acknowledging the world around them. Instead, they are buried in their smartphones. Ironically, when communication has become so easy and accessible, people have begun to lose connection with each other. You don’t have to go far to express love to other people. Start by stepping away from your smartphone and acknowledging the people around you. Smile at a baby, hold hands with your loved one and enjoy the world in all its glory. Once you open yourself up to the world, you will notice the world opening itself up to you.
